Monica’s Philosophy, Education and Training

All of us have the power to alter how we feel, how we look and how we live. I firmly believe that every person can change, grow and heal, and I have devoted most of my professional life to assisting this process. My aim is to impact people’s expectations of what is possible, thereby helping to extend and expand their quality of life. Together we find the creative and productive path to renewed vitality and ease. This partnership of improving wellness is the hallmark of my work.

When someone consults with me — whether for soft tissue injury, strain, physical discomfort, or preventative care — my goal is always to facilitate healing and to teach self-care. Using my wealth of knowledge, experience, and skills, I strive to create an optimal treatment plan for each individual. This plan might include myofascial or neuromuscular release, manual therapy, deep tissue massage, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, Polarity Therapy and recommendations for maintaining the benefits of treatment and preventing injury through self-care. When appropriate I may refer a client to an affiliate professional with specific skills to address the concern.

As a follow-up to treatment, I might recommend a tension-releasing exercise with instructions about how to continue the work we began in the treatment. When someone becomes a client, she/he is given a password to enter the Clients Only section of this website for unlimited access to tools, articles, books, CDs, apps and links that I find helpful.

My work is a synthesis of everything I know about the body, mind and human energy system. I always seek the most appropriate way to address each person’s problem or challenge. Extensive training gives me the ability to bring many tools to the healing and self-care education of my clients. I have come to understand that the key to making a difference is absolutely unique to each individual. With a combination of skill and intention, I help people to become dynamic participants in their health and well-being.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

After earning my Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandeis University and Master’s degree in Public Health from Yale University, I pursued rigorous training in a variety of bodywork disciplines:

  • Benjamin System of Muscular Therapy
  • St. John Method of Neuromuscular Therapy
  • Myofascial Release
  • Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
  • Polarity Therapy
  • Feldenkrais Method

This breadth of study gives me a wide range of tools to choose from when approaching my clients’ challenges. When assessing a person’s needs, I consider how he/she arrived at the current state of functioning, the nature of that person, and how best to determine and facilitate the release needed for the body to regain free movement and energetic health.
